Bonhooghly Lake - Lake in Baranagar - 24 Paraganas North, India

The most beautiful waterbody in North Kolkata used to have a stunning small island about 20-25 years ago. During that time, it was frequented by numerous migratory birds that would come to lay their eggs. In the early 90s, the Forest Department of West Bengal initiated a plantation project around the lake, resulting in the area becoming greener and serving as a habitat for various indigenous species such as mongoose, different types of cranes, herons, and egrets. Unfortunately, the current situation is quite distressing as the area has been encroached upon by various projects, illegal shops, real estate giants, and local club, car garages. This encroachment is transforming the once vibrant and natural landscape into a concrete jungle.

In present time, a natural lake is an invaluable asset to any city of the world and we are gifted one, like Bonhoogly lake. When rampant pollution is order of the day, the local populace and the government authorities choose to be blindfolded. The surroundings of the lake except the southern bank are neglected a lot. Total environmental negligence is horrific. The pathetic condition of the lake deserves urgent attention of the environmentalists and the government.

This is a very good place to start your day. you can increase your stamina by jogging around the lake.it is quite clean around the lake and a huge number of people come here every morning and evening to unwind themselves ,you can join the yoga group,or kids can play in the small park right along the lake,or if you are too tired you just sit in the ample amount of benches placed around the lake and just enjoy the fresh air of the lake. it feels like a small ecopark.

This is an beautiful lake in north Kolkata. This is the biggest lake in north Kolkata. Out side of this lake mainly under construction area. Like Siddha construction (hiest building in North Kolkata). Outside of this lake versus college and educational institute are available.

Views is very good, but atmosphere are not so good in evening time.

Awesome view Best place for medical students to keep relax You can do exercise around this lake in the morning or evening... Fill very good when we sit around this lake... We can shoot photographs also, as many beautiful photography sites are here.. Many hotels and restaurants are available around this lake... There is an apartment near this lake that is, 'Lake View Apartment'... One can really find out the original view of this lake from the top of this Lake View Apartment... This apartment is tallest apartment amongst all the apartment in this area, I think there may be 50/52 floors in this apartment... Lake is very beautiful, having cool surrounding and environment...

Earlier it was a calm place ,now days it is very crowdy
