Birjis Quder Mausoleum - Historical landmark in Kolkata - Presidency, India

It's a very historic place. Where the last nawab of india rest in peace. It is located in Meatiubruz in garden reach, kolkata. Ita a very conjugated area. Its unfortunate that government or local administration has failed to promote it and let the people know about such a magnificent place.

This mausoleum is situated on nawab wajid ali shah road,garden reach ,matiabruz. It was the monument of Nawab wajid ali shah,the nawab of awadh(lucknow). This was the last place where nawab wajid ali lived. It is a historical place to visit. Now a days,most of the function of shia group are done here.

Wajid Ali Shah was not exiled to Matiaburj.Matiaburj was a port enroute to England. he was going to appeal to the Queen Elizabeth for the unjust annexation of his kingdom. He fell sick due to dysentery and had to stay back. After the death of Wajid Ali Shah in 1887 his fourth son King Birjis Quder was called by the pensioners of the king to negotiate a settlement with British administration. But the British feared that being the eldest son he was entitled to a pension of 12 lakhs per annum and hence he was assassinated in Ata Bagh Matiaburj. His last resting place is here in sibtainabad Imambara-Matiabruj.

A Heritage place of King Nawab Wajid Ali Shah. It's a mousoleum and Imambargah of Imam Hussain a.s. Majlis in Moharram and Procession related to Imam Hussain a.s happens with great royalty and dignities, where massive people takes part and comommerate.

Nawab Wajid Ali Shah's first wife was Alam Ara who was better known as Khas Mahal because of her exquisite beauty. She was one of two Nikahi wives. His kingdom, long protected by the British under treaty, was eventually annexed bloodlessly on 11 February 1856, two days before the ninth anniversary of his coronation. The Nawab was exiled to Garden Reach in Metiabruz, then a suburb of Kolkata, where he lived out the rest of his life on a generous pension. He was a poet, playwright, dancer and great patron of the arts. He is widely credited with the revival of Kathak as a major form of classical Indian dance. He is survived by many descendants.
