The dam is losely locked, but the locals might create an hindrance if you don't take the trek to Devkund waterfalls. Parking and trek charges are taken by the locals in the name of "protection". Plenty of shops are available throughout which are costly but acceptable. Check my review for Devkund waterfall for more details!

Very amazing monsoon trek. For camping it is a good place. Tents are available here on rent in case if you don't have. If you can also book package from resorts to stay here.

The Bhira dam is located in Mangaon, Raigad at the base village named Bhira from where the trek to the Devkund waterfall starts. The Bhira Dam is quite smaller compare to the other dams in Maharashtra but it is indeed scenic and surrounded with big tall mountains. It has many nice places where you can capture nice pics

Andharban - literal translation 'Dark Forest' - trail ends here at Bhira dam. One can also visit the Devkund waterfall from here. But it becomes risky in peak monsoon due to heavy flow. Andharban is one of the few treks in Sahyadris where one has descend rather than climb for most of the time. However, that does not make it a walk in the park. The trek is fairly long and can easily take 4-6 hours to finish depending on your pace. But don't let that stop you from experiencing this monsoon delight. Get down at Pimpri dam and ask your driver to take the vehicle close to the end point of Bhira dam through the scenic Tamhini ghat. If you are going to Mumbai and don't have car then Sawantwadi Diva Passenger departing from the nearby Kolad railway station at 4:52 pm would be a better choice than ST bus which needs to be changed at Pali due to lack of any direct bus. The train is particularly better in monsoon as it is generally late by half an hour or more giving one enough time to complete the trail. The trail starts at Pimpri dam. It has a few waterfall crossings in its path, 3 of which are prominent ones. 2 out of those 3 are close to each other and are encountered in a little while after the starting of the trail. 3rd is almost at the end. If it has rained well for some time, then crossing these won't be easy. In fact some people have also lost their lives in strong flows of the 2nd waterfall. It may require a rope, so keep a 20-30 meter rope as a precaution. There is a makeshift bridge of few logs over the stream of 3rd waterfall. If the flow is low, then one can spend some time in it to relax after the grueling walk. There are barely any shops on the way, but a very small village almost in the mid of the trail where one can get bottled water, tea (which was not good) and roasted corn (bhutta). So keep sufficient snacks as the trail is long. Near the end there are a couple of shops run by villagers where one can get tea (tasted great) and some snacks.
