Very nice, beautiful, archilogical site, distance from Bhopal around 40 km, family/kids friendly, This is a very important place for those who want to gain historical knowledge, it is a 100,000 year old site, it has the oldest frescoes in the world which are almost disappearing. Seeing the stones and caves here amidst greenery is a different experience.
Very nice group or family getaway on a weekend. Find out about a historical site in Bhopal. It's lovely. Last time we went here we didn't find any monkeys but now there are monkeys also. So be careful of taking food inside. Try to come as early you can on weekends because the place was full of tourists. Entry fee you have to pay per vehicle. We paid 150 rs. And there is no time limit mentioned for the tour.
It is a tourist spot which is located in madhya pradesh at the distance of 45 km south east of Bhopal. It is also present in UNESCO world heritage site and it is famous for rock painting and rock shelter. The site spread over 10 km in length and about 3 km in width has more than 700 rock shelters, of which over 400 have paintings. It is surrounded by ratapani wildlife sanctuary.
Must visit this place The Bhimbetka rock shelters are an archaeological site in central India that spans the Paleolithic and Mesolithic periods, as well as the historic period. It exhibits the earliest traces of human life in India and evidence of the Stone Age starting at the site in Acheulian times. It is located in the Raisen District in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, about 45 kilometres (28 mi) south-east of Bhopal. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that consists of seven hills and over 750 rock shelters distributed over 10 km (6.2 mi). At least some of the shelters were inhabited more than 100,000 years ago. The rock shelters and caves provide evidence of human settlement and the cultural evolution from hunter-gatherers to agriculture, and expressions of prehistoric spirituality.
This is a UNESCO World Heritage site, very interesting historic place not known to many. Sketches on stone on stone dwelling of pre historic age. This place is some 2-3 kms off the Bhopal-Hoshangabad road ( NH 48) . The road is mostly 10 ft wide, with 5 ft skirting on both sides. Motor-able. I would advise not visit during rainy season. There is a railway crossing once you leave the NH. There is a fee counter on the way, minimal. No card or G pay etc. There is a toilet also, did not check its cleanliness. Did not find any eatery. The whole tour of all 15 spots will take around 1 hr. Place is clean. Have security guards. Some guides too, which i did not use, as each point has writings on it. At one place, wooden planks are fixed on the ground, have some nails coming out, so be careful.
This is a UNESCO world heritage site and a very interesting historical place.
