These caves are well maintained. But no ventilation so if anyone has asthma avoid exploring. Other wise best experience

Nothing much to see here. I think caves are redone with all ceiling and floor laid newly. But I believe the original caves are totally replaced as some underground tunnel. The entrance is quite small, and gets stuffy when multiple people are there. Can be missed. The statues of the deities is quite mesmerizing (specially the Kali Ma statue).

Like other spots of Ujjain, Bhartrihari caves also have a history linked with it. According to legends these caves, assigned to 11th century owe their name from Bhartrihari the step brother of King Vikaramaditya. It is said that when Bhartrihari decided to renounce the worldly life, he came here in search of a peace to continue his meditation. In due course of time these caves became his shelter whwre he spend considerable part of his life. Bhartrihari was a very learned man. He was a great scholar of his time. He also had a good depth and knowledge of poetry. Many of his great works are studied and researched by students and scholars even today. His contribution to the Sanskrit language is immense. Some of his great works like Shringarshatak, Vairagyashatak, and Nitishatak are considered as gems of Indian literature . It is generally believed that all these works were possibly written here only.

This place is okay in terms of ambience and feel. Condition of the caves is not good (specially in summers season it becomes humid and hot from inside so you will suffocated). Most of the area is exposed to the sun directly so stone heats up and you cannot walk with bare foots on it so take socks along with you in summer season.

This temple is nearer to Kshipra river and Gadhtalika mata temple. This temple is having two caves. The caves are a very beautiful example of Indian rock cut architecture. There are Hindu gods statues inside caves. At the entrance of cave tou can see a south Indian temple architecture which is having statues at all four sides. There is also a cow shed where you can feed cows.

It is one of the famous caves located in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. Famous as it is linked with the name of king Vikramaditya. There are two underground caves. It is approximately at a distance of 6-8km from Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain. People with cardio respiratory problems kindly avoid going inside the caves as there is less oxygen level and may cause breathlessness. It also has a goshala where you can feed the cows and also take gomutra along with u.
