Best puppet show! Talented artists! Must visit place in Udaipur! We were looking for puppet shows in the city of Udaipur, but were not satisfied until we visited Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandal. They showcased the best puppet show in the entire city. We felt it to be a hidden gem in the city. We would definitely recommend this place to everyone. They have one show in the afternoon and two shows in the evening.
The museum is not well maintained. It is in bad condition. The puppet show in museum was also poor. Would not recommend it. The 6pm Folk Dance+Puppet Show is far better. Folk Dance was great with 3 performances. The puppet show lacked the original sound of 'Boli' instrument.
Good museum of folk art and puppetry. The 10 minutes puppet show was very good. Located centrally with helpful staff.
I attended the 7.15 pm (to 8.15 pm) show on a weekday. The entry ticket cost Rs 120, and I was the lone spectator in the auditorium with a capacity of approximately 200. The spectacle comprised five segments of puppet acts, followed by Rajasthani folk dance performances of Terah Taal and Bhawai. Still in awe of the performances and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Udaipur to include it in the itinerary. The auditorium is quite old but decently maintained. An exhibition and sale of tribal handicrafts, art, textiles and jewellery were being hosted on the premises that day.
Make sure you visit during the performance time which I put in the attached photo. This place is a must when you are in Udaipur. Their puppet show is far better than any other shows across Rajasthan. Ideally this should be an itinerary in Udaipur for 1 day - 1.) City palace: first half of the day 2.) Lunch : Till 3pm 3.) Shilpgram: 3 to 5pm (to experience heritage of Rajasthan) 4.) Bharatiya Lok kala mandal: 5.30 to 7.30pm (they have programs at this time, so should stick to this time) 5.) Pichoa lake walk : 7:30pm to 9pm Enjoy Udaipur.
A museum dedicated to folk art of Rajasthan.There is puppet theater (Kathputli) too where puppet shows are held at regular intervals.
Great time spent with family. Puppet dance is too good..
It's a good place to visit. You can visit anytime but I recommend visiting in the evening hours if you want to enjoy folk Performances
