If you are looking for trekking, this place is perfect. Beautiful views, great weather. You have to trek for 3km to reach this dam. I would highly recommend to take a guide with you to not get lost.
Anyone going to Ranikhet, must visit this place in the thick jungle. It seems some Britisher build this dam over a century ago purely for the benefit of wild life (bhalu !). And this purpose has been served magnificently. It has a large all weather lake. At the Chaubatiya garden entrance, one can find an authorised guide to take you to the dam excursion. It's about 5.5 km for the return walk, mostly downhill while going and uphill while returning. Airtel works fine here. There is no boating.

It's a 3 km very easy trek .. One way trek time would be 1 hour descending and return time is approx 1 hour plus in climb. Not advisable to take kids below 6/7 years old. Take a snack and a drink along.
Amazing place to have a trek in the area. Thanks to the neglected attitude of local authorities and leeching attitude of locals you ll be misguided for the route as there is no proper signs or raasta to place. You ll have to search for it youself and walk about 3km to reach location. But once you reach there the serenity and place ll overpower your thought.
It's a nice trek near Ranikhet, small trek good for beginners
A scenic beauty, in the mid of dence forest of Chaubatia. An easy trek , evry spot enroute is a photo frame . The water is very dirty because of it being open. The source of water is the rains and snowfall in and around the area. This is the source for water in the area around this dam(reservoir).
