Very beutiful and relaxing place..The pleasant atmosphere of the dam attracts large number of tourists and makes it one of the most visited picnic spots of the region. As this dam is situated in close proximity of Lakkavalli village, it is also called as Lakkavalli Dam.. Total capacity: 71.50 billion cubic feet Construction cost: Rs.520 crores Height: 59.13 metres (194.0 ft) Surface area: 11,250.88 hectares (27,801.5 acres)hectares
Backwater of Bhadra Dam is very vast & very beautiful and is surrounded by mostly forest, which adds to the scenic beauty. Luckily this year in July Dam hit the max level, so the reservoir was awesome. Good roads from Shimoga, Bhadravathi & Tarikere. A must visit place
You can see the Dam from the road. Visitors not allowed.
You cant enter the dam, access is closed but when I went the gates were open and the flowing water was a sight to behold. There are access roads on the side leading up to the dam where you can park and get a good view. Might not be much to view if the gates are closed. Worth a halt if you are passing by that side.
Tourist please note that its not a Tourist spot right now. Gate has been locked from main road itself. If Google takes you then it will end up in private lodge place only which was prior online booking
Good place but visitors not allowed on dam bridge. Theres another way which is on right side dam bridge, there we can enjoy dam back side view. I have seen people entering back water from there which seems to Br risky and no security guards present there, so people can use this for illegal activities like boozing, playing and littering
Bhadra Dam is 35 kms from Shimoga, very near to Kuvempu University.. The drive from Shimoga to the Bhadra Dam is good, it takes you into the reserve forest of Bhadra Santuary and you will really enjoy the greenery on the way. You have to take prior permission to enter the dam premises.. There are several view points from where you can view the reservoir, it is very big and vast.... The view from the top of the hill is awesome.. Be there by 5 pm to enjoy the pleasant breeze. The view keeps changing as the sun sets. Beautiful location, But not maintained well .. If u want to explore BRP Dam more by boat safari, then check in to the River Tern Lodge, a lovely property of Jungle Lodges and Resorts which, is nearby on the Bhadra Sanctuary, overlooks the Bhadra reservoir..
