Bhadra Fort is a striking monument that bears the hallmark of the Indo-Saracenic style of architecture. Located near eastern banks of Sabarmati River, the impressive fort was built after the establishment of the Muzaffarid dynasty. Built in red stone, the fort is set in the walled city area of AhmedabadAn auspicious structure located within the fort called the Bhadrakali Temple enshrines Goddess Bhadra, a manifestation of Goddess Kali. It is believed that she is the protector of the famed city. The temple was constructed during the period of Azam Khan near the palace. Temple draws several visitors every day to witness the deity who is beautifully dressed in vibrant outfits.The remarkable fort houses fourteen circular structures, three big gates, three mid-sized gates and two smaller gates. The British East India Company installed a clock tower in the fort in 1878, which had a kerosene lamp for lighting it at night. It was then replaced by an electric lamp in 1915 by the Britishers. Bhadra Fort is open from 9 AM in the morning till 5 PM in the evening. There is no entry fee for visiting Bhadra Fort.

Ahmedabad was named after Ahmad Shah I of the Muzaffarid dynasty. He established Ahmedabad as the new capital of Gujarat Sultanate and built Bhadra Fort on the east bank of the Sabarmati river. It was also known as Arak Fort as described in Mirat-i-Ahmadi. The foundation stone of fort was laid down at Manek Burj in 1411. Square in form, enclosing an area of about forty-three acres, and containing 162 houses, the Bhadra fort had eight gates, three large, two in the east and one in the south-west corner; three middle-sized, two in the north and one in the south; and two small, in the west.[5] The area within the fort had become occupied by urban developments by 1525.[1][2] So a second fortification was built later by Mahmud Begada, the grandson of Ahmed Shah, with an outer wall 10 km (6.2 mi) in circumference and consisting of 12 gates, 189 bastions and

About the location: Climb up the Bhadra Fort and get a bird's eye view of the old city. Built immediately after the founding of Ahmedabad in 1411, Bhadra Fort now houses government offices and a Kali temple. Its gate formed the eastern entrance of the Ahmedabad citadel, which stretched west to the river. From the roof you can check out the imposing structure and views of the surrounding streets. Between the fort and the Teen Darwaja (Triple Gateway) to its east was the Maidan Shahi (Royal Square), where royal processions and polo games took place.

Bhadra fort located in old Ahmedabad. Its a major tourist attraction & has historical importance. It has stone gates, arches, clock tower. It needs some renovation work to get preserved.

Bhadra Fort is small one as compared to usual big ones and surrounded by so many shops and has a busy market traffic. The Fort is beautiful but inside it looks like a mess of renovation! What I was disappointed was to find a normal office inside. If you decide to climb, the view is good but you can just visit it from outside if you want to.

The staircase leading to terrace and view of surrounding market is so colourful and vivid. Observations on terrace of built structures are for a civil or architecture eyes only.
