Bamuni Hills - Scenic spot in Tezpur - Sonitpur, India

Very serene and beautiful place steeped in history. The archaeological ruins coupled with the beautiful views and calm surroundings make it a must visit spot while in Tezpur.

Nice place ....with historical ruins, but I would say it's kind of in a secluded area so it's not that safe for a girl to go alone.

The temple is completely ruined. It just has some broken stones which has some carving. The place is well enclosed and beautifully maintained by ASI. A good watch to view the river. The nearby place has some general store.

This was an accidental find, but it was totally worth it. I got transported to a whole different timeline. It was sad to see such an amazing creation in ruins. Very calm place.

I've seen Some busted Local people doing Smoke/ drinks over there, totally not safe for couples. Then Disturb or Harassment with Visitors, So, if anyone visiting that place be aware. A Short and slim tattood guy he followed every one and come to you and asking money, so guys be aware if you visiting that place.

Bamuni Hills is a low hillock on the southern outskirts of the city of Tezpur, Assam. This hill is the site of the ruins of an ancient temple (of 9th-10th century AD). From the disposition of the broken stone blocks scattered here, archeological experts have opined that the original temple was a Panchayatan type of temple where five temples are arranged in such a way that the main shrine with the deity of the principal god is placed at the center of a square place, the 4 corners of which is the site of 4 similar but smaller temples with the idols of (usually) 4 different deities. Experts also concluded that the main temple was dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The ruins contain broken stone blocks of different sizes and many of those have stunningly beautiful bas-relief decorations of geometric and floral designs, gods, demigods, dancers and warriors. There are few high relief work showing Avatars of Lord Vishnu. The decorations are so beautiful that only one phrase can describe them honestly : sublime poetry in stone.

A pretty cool spot without much crowd. The shade from the trees makes it a peaceful area. The stone sculptures are interesting though I couldn't find information about their history (maybe I missed it?). I wish the premises were cleaner. Please guys - don't throw trash all around. Dispose off them properly.
