Bahlol Lodi's Tomb - Featured Reviews (48)
The rating is solely due to the maintenance of the tomb. But the tomb itself is a reminder of a bygone era, and the passage of time. Maybe because it's not maintained it was saved from the ghastly whitewashing we love doing to historical monuments in the name of restoration. The dome was quite a bit different from the domes we usually see and the incise plastering work is damaged mostly, but you can still see some of the remaining work.
The Tomb of Bahlul Lodi is a historical building located in Delhi, which houses the tomb of Bahlul Lodi (reign: 1451-1489 A.D), the emperor of the Delhi Sultanate and the founder of the Lodi dynasty. The mausoleum is located in Chirag Dilli, a historical township, which is located within the fort walls of the city of Jahanpanah (built by Tughlaq). This tomb is one of the finest examples showing the evolution of Lodi architecture. It was built in July 1489 AD by Bahlul Lodi's son and successor Sikandar Lodi after his father's death.
Not well maintained. Serious attention required to protect this historical monument. Located on a narrow lane near Chirag Dilli dargah, Bahlol Lodi tomb is a must visit place, particularly for those who love history, heritage and architecture.
Located amidst the concrete jungles, the tomb of Bahlol Lodi is in a very neglected state. Bahlol Lodi (1451-1488) was the founder of Lodi Dynasty. Compared to other tombs of Lodi rulers his tomb is quite simple. There are three tombs inside. Many other tombs also lie in its premises. It shares the wall with the mazar of Chirag e Delhi. A gate connecting both remain closed now. Much of the area has been encroached upon. One can go on to the top of tomb through narrow stairs and could see four domes on the sides and one central dome in the middle.
I'm a Pashtun/Afghan from the Lodi tribe passionately interested in my ancestral and cultural history and would love to visit my forefathers grave one day! Der sha de!
Structure still intact and grave still fully visible but needs cleaning of the compound
Mismanagement Govt should protact our cultural heritage.
Bahlul Lodi's tomb is a building situated in Delhi, India, which is allegedly the tomb of an emperor of Delhi Sultanate and the founder of Lodi Dynasty, Bahlul Lodi (Reign:1451-1489 A.D). The tomb is located in a historic settlement, Chirag Delhi, located within the fort walls of the Jahapanah city (built by the Tughlaqs). This tomb is one of the finest examples which demonstrate the evolution of Lodi architecture. It was built by Sikander Lodi, son and successor of Bahlul Lodi after the demise of his father in July 1489 A.D.[1] The identification of the building in Chirag Delhi as Bahlul Lodi's tomb is disputed among historians, some of whom suggest the Sheesh Gumbad in the Lodi Gardens as the site of Bahlul Lodi's grave.[2]
