It's a place where Rishi Markendye went into samadhi resulting thereby flow of Trivani consisting of River Gomti,Bhagirathi & Saryu stopped. Than Lord Shjva & Mata Parvati transformed into Tiger & Cow. Rishi came out from Samadhi to save Cow from Tiger than only flow of Trivani resumed and lives was saved. Local people told me that there is cremation everyday. In the event of no cremation, which never happened, mwhant has to burn part of his hairs. Beautiful place at the bank of Trivani. Very good market having all kind of shops. Toilet facilities can be bette.

One of the famous religious places in Kumaun region of Uttarakhand. There is sangam of Sarayu Ganga and Ram Ganga at Bageshwar. It is ancient historical place. River Water is very clean and one can some quality time at this place.

According to Hindu Legend, Sage Markandeya worshipped Shiva here. Lord Shiva blessed sage Markandeya by visiting here in the form of a Tiger. Though some sources state The existence of Bagnath temple since 7th Century, the present building in nagara style was built in 1450 by Chand ruler, Laxmi Chand. The various statues in the temple date back from 7th century AD to 16th century AD.[15] In 1996, the Archeology department of Uttarakhand state took over the temple, following which, several inscriptions and idols from the eighth to the tenth century were sealed inside the temples. These include idols of Shiva, Ganesha, Vishnu, Chaturmukhi Shiva, Teen Mukhi Shiva, Panch Mukhi Shiva, Mahishasura Mardini, Sahasra Shivalinga, Ganesh, Karthikeya, Panchdevapath, Navagraha etc.

Bagnath temple is situated on the banks of confluence of Saryu and Gomti river. The temple is a spiritual place of utmost peace.... The darshan at the shiv temple were very contenting ... The surrounding area of the temple is maintained very nicely by the authorities. The banks of Saryu River is a nice place to visit after the temple darshan. This place is picturesque. There is also a paid parking just before the temple

It's an ancient temple of Lord Shiva located on the banks of Sariyu River. It's a protected monument by ASI. Daily aarti is done twice & there is a satsang hall inside the premises. Drinking water facility & shoe stand are there. There are pandits sitting just outside the temple if one wants to perform a pooja. Just outside the temple on the river bank is a Hindu crematorium where final rites are performed in the traditional way.
