This fort is very difficult to climb due to the broken stone cut steps at many places. Except for rock cut cisterns and steps which lead to the highest point, there are very few structures left on the fort.
Trekked on 21 May 23. Started trek from Aundh village at 0545 hrs and were back to Aundh village at 0945 hrs. Amazing trek, need some rock climbing skills. We carried a rope to help us reach top. You will need assistance at two places towards the top, while one has steel chains put up, the second spot we used rope to climb and also to get down. It is definitely a good trek, for physically fit persons.
Aundha Fort is known for its difficulty. To reach fort 2 wheeler is preferred, wind mill company had set road so it is hard to miss out route. If one chooses to go by 4 wheeler then off road drive vehicle is must. By walk it would be 1.5-2 hours walk from main route. There is no village or arrangement for stay or food. Trek start from very last or highest wind mill and need to reach back of hill by keeping hill on left side. From back side i can see arrow marking up hill. Further climb is technical and need good skill. For support chains are available. Top of hill is narrow but it has amazing view and high satisfaction of trecking. Climbing down hill is nice experience with techanical climb. One of very difficult and high Octane experience this has been.
How to reach: Vehicles can travel upto the last windmill which is just near the Aundha pinnacle. SUVs with good ground clearance can travel upto here without any issues. However PLEASE be very careful if you are planning to take hatchbacks. The route is quite steep at places with lots of stones and loose soil. One needs to drive really slow and carefully so as not to damage the underside. Do not take any sedans here. Monsoons will require 4x4 at some places since the route will become quite slippery. Note that from Tirde village cars cannot travel as the route is not driveable. About the trek: If you are a newbie or less experienced PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT. Irrespective of chains installed it is very risky to climb up and get down. Absolutely avoid in rainy season. The chain installed at second patch is free moving hence there is a high chance of chain moving around. Please dont rely on youtube videos where it shows that climbing is easy due to chains. The starting point of the climb is almost from behind the pinnacle. With you facing the pinnacle walk towards the right side on a trail till you reach backside. There are few arrows marked here which tells you the direction to climb up.
This is a very amazing place for trek and offroad trip. You can take experience of rock climbing here and also can enjoying it . don't go in rainy season here because there is some slippery places. From top of fort you can see whole kalsubai range and trambakrange also.
It's a very good place for trekking with beautiful windmills situated at every small distance. The view from the top is awesome!!!!The difficulty of climbing is at a medium scale . Only care has to be taken while climbing the topmost part of the fort with the help of the chain... The chain is attached at the top....
Want some thrill? This is the place.. auNddhaa or liNgaa as it is known is a fort near Thangaon that offers brilliant views of the surrounding windmills, close-up and in abundance.. The trek to pinnacle is tough but is aided by the hanging iron chain and knotted wire..
Fort was used to keep a control on the surrounding region. Difficulty level-very difficult, due to the windmills installed on fort there is a proper way for vehicles but not up to the top, there is a rock patch of 10-15 mtr where one have to take help of rope. Half an hour is enough to see the fort. Overwhelming experience of rock climbing and rappelling..loved it..We can see Patta fort, Bitangad, Alang, Madan, Kulang, Kalsubai and the surrounding area from this fort.
