Assam State Zoo - Zoo in Guwahati - Kamrup Metro, India

Loved the experience. The zoo is larger than what I've seen elsewhere. Best part was seeing the wild cats in an almost natural habitat in huge open spaces. Premise is also well maintained and clean. It may help if a digital app / map is provided as there are many circular tracks. Overall, an amazing experience.

The Assam State Zoo and Botanical Garden is unique and largest in its league in the North Eastern part of India. The zoo is located inside the Hengerbari Reserved Forest, situated in the outskirts of the city of Guwahati. There are more than a 100 species of birds and animals to be found in this zoo. It was established in the year 1957. The Assam State Zoo and Botanical Garden has about 895 animals belonging to 113 different species. Among them, some of the animals are Tiger, Clouded Leopard, One-Horned Indian Rhinoceros, Himalayan Black Bear, Jungle Cat, Hoolock Gibbon, etc. Near the zoo, there are other places to visit, including the famous Kamakhya and Bhuvaneshwari Temple.This botanical garden was also added to it, along with a museum. The zoo also takes an active part in the rescue and rehabilitation of the animals, and even hosts social awareness programme around the city.

Good for children to see live animals. But maintenance of zoo has improved a lot but not the care provided to animals. Most animal cages are empty. Hope one understands why.

It is a very nice zoo. I am very keen in knowing nature. I want to know more about different types of animals. In this zoo I got to see many animals which I had never seen before. The experience of seeing with my own eyes the animals which were seen on TV or in pictures etc. was amazing, experience was very good. The zoo is quite big and the number of animals is considerable. I got to know and understand a lot by seeing such a variety of animals in the zoo. The premises of the zoo are very neat and clean and organised. This zoo can be a good experience for animal loving tourists.

Its really nice and has quite a few animals, birds and reptiles in the Assam State Zoo situated in Zoo Road. You can easily spend 2 hours in the zoo and it is a good place to bring kids too. Animals are quite out in the open areas and visible to sight. Cages are very limited.
