Kalsi is a popular and beautiful town situated around 44 km from Dehradun city on the Dehradun-Chakrata Road in Uttarakhand. Located on the banks of the Yamuna River, this place is best known for the Rock edicts of Khalsi, a group of important and large inscriptions by emperor Ashoka. It is peaceful, soothing, and resonates with everyone who visits this small town. Thousands of tourists from around the country come to the Kalsi village every year to enjoy the beauty and peace and to admire Ashoka's inscriptions. It is a splendid location to spend a short vacation and enjoy a few moments of calmness away from the city's noise.

The Kalsi rock edict is a piece of history which has guided Indian politics even today. The off tour was worth every efforts. You can very easily take your car to this place but if it is crowded, it can be challenging to turn around the car. There is no tickets what so ever. Pets are not allowed. And it's really small, the rock edict. If you get yourself around with the caretaker, they will also tell you what to look into it. And it is mind-blowing. It was a really good experience. Just outside the place, there are trees of Chakota. Which is basically a bigger mausami. You can take one home with their permission but it should be riped or else waste of efforts. Please visit it. Its a piece of Indian history.

This is a historic place where a rock bears engravings in the Prakrit language using the Brahmi script. Ashoka's empire is commonly referred to as Akhand Bharat, and the name of Kalsi (the location of this rock) can be found on the Akhand Bharat map in the new Indian Parliament. This place holds great interest for historians or those who wish to closely explore Indian history. It features a small garden and a sitting area, surrounded by picturesque farmlands that enhance its beautiful landscape. For general tourists, there may not be much excitement beyond these aspects.

The India's first empire, the great Mauryan Empire king - the great Ashoka's rock edict is situated here. It is the evidence of our rich historical heritage. Kalsi was like a gateway of that time to this region which may comes under Mauryan dynasty. This rock edict, tells us about the history of India. Prakrit inscriptions were used to convey message and information written on it.

A must visit place if you are visiting in and around Dehradun, particularly if you are interested in History. This rock dates back to times of Ashoka king and has inscriptions on the rock in Brahmi script in Prakrit language. Also, it's the only major rock edict in entire North India. The rock edict could also indicate the boundary of the empire those times, and also the place Kalsi is the starting of the Jaunsar region of Uttarakhand. The nearby mountains add glory to the whole place, particularly if you visit during monsoon.
