Asar Mahal - Featured Reviews (1119)
A place built for the purpose of providing justice for the local public in the Adil Shahi dynasty period. Good place to go and visit. Nothing special here. It's a mosque which functions currently. Open to public but not for ladies ( as per the instructions board there )
Visited this place after a long time This place is an ancient court where the kings of bijapur take a decisions and their orders gives justice This place is really cool outside it may be high temperature but when we enters here inside it feels soo cool because of the woods used here which makes the place soo cool And also the speciality of this place is From then to now Women's are not allowed inside the. Court I too don't know the specific reason And there are some stones which are called as Brazil stones think soo those are exported from Brazil..... That's all about the place Asar Mahal
The Asar Mahal was built by Mohammed Adil Shah in about 1646, which was used to serve as a Hall of Justice. The building was also used to house hairs from the Prophet's beard. The rooms on the upper storey are decorated with frescoes and the front is graced with a square tank. Here women are not allowed inside. Every year there is urs (festival) held at this place. In front of the hall, one can see three tanks the bigger tank, which is at the centre is about 15 feet (4.6 m) deep however the other two are comparatively smaller in size as well as depth. Behind Asar Mahal one can still see the remain of the citadel. Just a kilometer away behind Asar Mahal, one can still find the old mosque which is on top of the citadel wall. There is a big entrance with arc below this mosque. Many stones have inscriptions. The site is under maintenance of Archeological Survey of India.Asar Mahal or Athar Mahal, or palace of holy Relic, is also known as Athar Mubarak and AtharShariff. It originallywas intended as a hall of Justice. For a shrot time it was used as such but later it was reserved for the safe custody of the relic box allegedy containing a few hairs of the prophet. Ascribed to Sultan Mohamad (1626-1656) the building is divided longitudinally, the forward half, being a great hall supported by the side walls on both end and four great wooden pillars in bet ween. The rear half is divided into halls and chamber on two floors. The central hall in the upstairs where the Sultana sat upon his mansad, is gilded with gold leaf, much of it still remins. Two rooms south of this hall are the show rooms being decorated with carved doors and gorgeous paintings and gilding. The motifs used are flowers, foliages, creepers and figures of men and women in nude, a rare occurance and divergence form the established Islamic Philosophy. These paintings are executed both in tempera and fresco technique. Scholars opine that European artists were engaged by the sultan Mohammad in executing the paintings.
Asar mahal is one of various buildings built during Adil shah dynasty now partially in ruins was once served as court of justice during Adil shah dynasty now serving as Shrine.
Not well maintained, not felt like a tourist spot, its a place for worship. Make a note WOMEN NOT ALLOWED INSIDE. But you can roam around outside freely and no one bothers you
Built by Mohammed Adil Shah of the Adil Shahi Dynasty as in as a Hall of Justice, the Mahal is now used as a mosque. The one large building still retains evidence of its former grandeur with its massive quinque arches supported by four columns. Surrounding the Mahal are three large water tanks which currently contains dirty looking water than locals have no qualms about using as a swimming pool.
A beautiful and serene place to go early morning. Unfortunately women are not allowed inside but can roam around the structure. The place is neat and clean except the water body, where people have thrown plastic bottles and packets of packaged food. Asar Mahal is surrounded by some more ruins, a mosque and broken walls of Bijapur fort.
This is a beautiful ruin and I wonder how it would have been originally. The place has a mosque inside where the ladies obviously aren't allowed. You must just visit it to witness the beauty that once was
