This is one of five pancha booths sthalm of chennai. This is Ganga (water) temple. Renovation is going on. However devotees can get inside from side entry. Near to this temple Chidambershwerer (sky) is another panch booths sthalm. Other 3 are in Georgetown area.
Shri Gangadeeswarar temple is near busy intersection near Madharsha textile shop in Purasawakkam. Devine and beautifully serene vigraham of Shri Pankajambal Amman in seperate sanctum on the left side main sanctum. Lord Ganesha and Lord Murugan with consorts are also in seperate sanctums. There is a small moorthy of Shri Ramalinga Adigalar, (Vallalar of Vadalur, 19th century saint/ poet) near the navagrahas, adjacent to Gopuram. Renovation of temple is under consideration.
Lord Gangadheeswarar and his consort Goddess Pankajambal are very divine, beautiful and full of bliss. King Bhagirathan worshipped Lord Shiva here to overcome the curse he had suffered at the hands of Narathar. Temple is located in the busy Purasavakkam area. Once there used to be lot of Purasu trees and hence the name Purasavakkam. Temple has a 5 tier gopuram; well maintained and the temple pond is nice. Must visit temple.
Excellent temple in a busy area of Pursaiwakkam. It's in the renovation phase for the next few months. You can still see Lord shiva & Lord parvathi
