Ancient temples in the verge of ruins. No idea what restoration is done by ASI but the temples are of around 350 to 400 years old according to the locals and situated by the banks of river Kasai. Ambience is great but don't have any facilities for tourists.

The name of this village in Paschim Medinipur is Pathra. Located just 14 km from Medinipur city. Many temples can be seen here, some of which are more than 200 years old. With the Kansai(kaaNsaai) River nearby, Patra has become quite popular among tourists. Most of the temples were built by the Ghoshal (later Majumdar) and Bandyopadhyay families. But Vidyananda Ghosal's name has to be specially mentioned in this context. The construction of the temple started from the beginning of the 18th century. It continued until the beginning of the 19th century. 'Archeological Survey of India' is in charge of preserving the temples. So far 20 temples have been renovated. An organization named 'Pathra Archaeological Preservation Committee' has been formed by local interested persons. They are also very zealous in temple maintenance. Bengal's own style of architecture, which is almost disappearing, survives in this way in Patra.

Situated In Pathra, roughly 20 min drive away from the nearest town i.e. Midnapore. It is easily accessible via car or bike or even by cycling if you are willing to. Created in an unknown time in history it is mesmerizing to witness this temple ruins well preserved to this day.

Pathra consists of many temples on the Bank of Kangsabati river built around 1740 AD. These temples are with rich Terracotta artwork. Condition of most of the temples are not good but some temples are still in good shape and somewhat revived by Archeological survey of India. Some local peoples are taking good care of these marvellous temples nowadays. A must see place.

We reached there in the afternoon of "Maha Sashti".After hearing the description about the Temples from the locals I thougt that why these places are not so much promoted.

A place worth visiting. The old temples should be taken proper care. Mr. Yasin Pathan, a local resident took a huge responsibility of attracting the attention oh ASI & did marvelous job. But without the awareness of general public soon this place will get damaged. During our visit we saw a visitor was trying to write down something over the old brick wall. We resists & that person flew away from there.
