Ancient Shri Someshwara Swamy Temple - Featured Reviews (261)
A 12-13th century temple - maintained in a spic and span condition! There are 3 structures in this complex. You can walk around the complete area and enjoy the views it offers. The village itself is a very small quaint place. It looks like most of the structure were restored. But many of the pillars are immaculate! Spent a lot of time just admiring them. There are few inside as well - which we could not take pictures of. The main temple is functional and the pujari spoke about the place for a bit. Beyond the compound, at the back you can see two more structures which are abandoned. As soon as you enter through the steps - you can see this amazing Ganesha idol - it is now barricaded as tourists must be damaging it. Beyond this there are two more temples close by. These two are more popular than the ancient temple complex. All the three places are walking distance to each other. There is a lake behind the temple - very short ride to it. The weather was beautiful when we went there and we soaked in all that was offer
Ancient beautiful temple located right opposite to kurudumale bus stop. I had visited twice but could not witness the deity since it gets closed afternoon and usually visitors visit main Ganesh temple and trt to reach here, So better plan visiting kurudumale as early before noon. This temple complex has multiple shrines and carvings on walls are so beautiful and shows the skills of our ancient builders. Also the sorrounsing area is so calm and pleasant. Also we can witness 2 small temples backside of this temple which are not in good shape. State dept which is maintaining kurudumale Ganesh temple can utilise some of its money to restore these ruined temples
This 12th century architecture masterpiece is in walking distance from the kurudumale Ganesh temple. This Shiva temple which is believed to be 1330 years old, was built by Raja Raja Chola. The idol is believed to have been installed by Koundinya Maharishi. It was less crowded when we visited. No dedicated parking, need to park on the road side. Very calm and peaceful atmosphere. Stunning sculptures and Micro carvings. Also It's built on a big rock so there is no foundation.
12 the century chola period temple. Maintained by ASI. VERY close to kurudmale Ganesha temple. You can visit both temple easily. You can reach from mulbhagal town using green bus.
Someshwara temple at Kurudumale is a Shiva temple which is believed to be 1330 years old, built by Raja Raja Chola. The idol is believed to be installed by Koundinya Maharishi. The main sculpturist of this temple was 'Jakkanna chari, but was later taken over by his son 'Dankkana Chari'. Hence we can see two different styles of architecture. The temple has the Chola architectural style, and the temple has no foundation and has been built on a rock.
A must visit heritage temple when you are near or in Kurdumale. Peaceful and divine. The Shivling is very beautiful. This temple is at the opposite side of the Ganesha temple.
