Keladi, situated approximately 8 kilometers from Sagara, boasts a rich historical and architectural heritage dating back to the Keladi Nayaka period. The Keladi Rameshwara Temple, adorned with remarkable Hoysala-Dravida style, stands as a hidden gem, often overlooked by visitors. The temple's tranquil atmosphere is complemented by its relative isolation, offering a serene setting for exploration. One of the most striking features of this temple is its meticulously carved and smoothly finished pillars, showcasing the exquisite stone craftsmanship typical of Hoysala temples. The idols of various deities within are a testament to the unparalleled attention to detail in their intricate carvings. The entrance to the temple welcomes you with an old-fashioned Mangalore-style tiled roof gateway, a rarity in temple architecture. The temple stands out for its exceptional wood carvings, a distinct characteristic in this region. Within, you'll find typical Hoysala-era architectural intricacies, including intricate carvings and a majestic Nandi (bull) sculpture. The temple reveres Lord Rameswara, Lord Veerabhadra, and Lord Ganesha, with regular pujas held throughout the week. The temple's open courtyard reveals octagonal wooden pillars and two staircases, flanked by adjacent rooms. The upper storey holds two rooms and sixteen wooden pillars, showcasing the temple's architectural grandeur. The Keladi temple's unassuming exterior conceals a treasure trove of art and spirituality within. Home to shrines dedicated to Parvati, Rameshwara, and Veerabhadra, the temple's origins are linked to a legend of a sacred lingam found by Chowdappa Nayaka. The temple's architecture is a unique blend of Kadamba, Hoysala, and Dravidian styles. Notably, the Parvati Temple's roof and pillars feature intricate wood carvings. Within the Veerabhadra temple, a stone sculpture of Ganda Berunda on the ceiling captivates visitors with its exquisite depiction of a two-headed garuda. Yali columns, resembling pillars adorned with horses or lions with raised forepaws, add to the temple's artistic grandeur. The Nandi Dwajastambha, a towering pillar at the Veerabhadra temple's entrance, is attributed to Rani Chennamaji's reign. In 1982, the State Department of Archaeology took over the palace's maintenance, rescuing it from dilapidation and restoring its historical significance. This commendable effort ensures that Keladi's heritage continues to enchant those who seek its hidden wonders.

Located in Keladi village, 7km from Sagara town, connected by buses from Sagara. 1st capital of Keladi rulers, this temple showcases the architecture & sculptural prowess. Carvings are exquisite & tell their own tales. Well maintained temple with peaceful atmosphere. Also, must visit a museum, located diagonally to this temple to understand and appreciate the contributions of Keladi rulers.
