Ancient incomplete temple by construction. Totally ignored by present era governance which is disappointing.

A beautiful Ancient Temple.

It looked like once upon a time it was a majestic temple. Now only the sanctum sanctorum exists. That one also looks excellent. Beautifully sculptured stone pillars. The Shiva Linga is intact. All the four side walls looks beautiful. It really hurts to know that all the other portion of this great temple is no more. Visit once, it is very close to the main road.

The Billeshwara temple is in the Hoysala style. This temple has elaborately carved jambs on the doorframe of the garbhagudi. At the bottom of each side, there are five carved figures. Manmatha is in the central projection. Rati is at his side. Daksha (the goat headed deity) is also present and all are flanked by attendants. The temple has a sanctuary face which is incomplete. The temple outer walls are decorated with designs of temple towers and carved diamond shaped depressions. The square panels show carved serpents with intertwined tails, animals, musicians, and foliage. This temple is a listed monument of the Archaeological Survey of India. its another best option to visit in HANGAL , KARNATAKA

The Temple is very old and has suffered a lot of damage. But the remaining carvings and idols are worth a might. A must place to visit in Hangal...
