Amer Stepwell - Featured Reviews (728)
Recently renovated. You can enter this place for free. Only restriction is that you cannot go down the stairs. It is not allowed. Visit early in the morning or late afternoon if you don't want anyone in the photo. If you look at the water, you may see some big fish and turtle. Local said there are crocodiles in there as well but we didn't see any. There is also a beautiful Hindu temple opposite to the well. Unfortunately on your way to the well, you may Encounter lots of people trying to be your guide. Politely way no and move on.

Amer stepwell is one of the ancient site feature and architecturally unique arrangements of steps leading down to a well as a source of waters for the neighboring villages. It's a pit stop on the way to Amber Fort also known as Amber Palace, in Jaipur city of Rajasthan and definitely worth to stop by. We don't have to buy ticket to enjoy the beautiful symmetry but visitor can enter or go down to the well for stunning photoshooting with some charges. It's very impressive and stunning beauty.
Just in the old city of the amber city, how the ancient Indians were able to preserve rainwater, and surrounding it is a great blend of old and new city. Later on you can see the surround and find much more about the old city.
I only wish I could have seen it when it was new. The complexity of pattern and lines creates a fascinating play of light, and if only the water were kept free from trash, it would still be a stunning place. Note to photographers: This is a particularly challenging spot to shoot unless it is overcast, and while it would be amazing to go down the steps for different vantage points, entrance is prohibited.
The step wells were built by king which was used as a big bath for the entire kingdom. This magnificent sight has step wells which go down 9 stories. Visitors aren't allowed access into the well without prior permission, but you can get permission to conduct photo shoot there as well. The locals over there will tell you stories about how the kingdoms treasures were actually hid right at the bottom of the step wells & how it was found in the last few decades. Currently they've put massive turtles & fish inside the tank & you will be able to see them in the video I've posted as well. We visited the step wells on our way to Amber palace, once again you need to take your government approved guide who will charge you Rs400 for this. It's a very picturesque spot it's a definite pit stop you should make. It would be advisable to take a jeep for your trip to Amber & step wells as the terrain is quite rough. I booked our jeep for Rs600 for the entire morning session
One of the beautiful stepwells in Amer. You can just walk from amber fort or Amer bus stop. It is worth visiting this place. It is free and you can do some good pictures or videos here.
It's a short walk from the Amber Palace, and well worth the effort. It's a small place but so lovely to sit and just absorb the symmetry.
