Ambapur Ni Vav Gandhinagar - Featured Reviews (540)
The step-well of Ambapur is a stepwell in the village of Ambapur, close to the state capital, Gandhinagar.[1] The stepwell is believed to be built in the 15th century although it doesn't have any inscription. The step-well or 'Vav', as it is called in Gujarati, is intricately carved and is five stories in depth. Such step wells were once integral to the semi-arid regions of Gujarat as they provided basic water needs for drinking, washing and bathing. These wells were also venues for festivals and sacred rituals.
Wonderfully heritage place, very near to Ahmedabad & Gandhinagar. First time visited today, explored during my Morning Cycling Ride from Ahmedabad to Ambapur. Beautiful stepwell, nicely maintained as well. Located with Ambama temple, vav is beautiful and nice place to visit for all historical places Lovers.
It's a really good place to visit, if you are an explorer and heritage lover.
Located in Ambapur village nearby Gandhinagar, this 15th sanctuary stepwell (also known as "vav" in gujarati) is a beautiful architectural site.
This place is not well known to tourists, but it's carvings and structure is almost identical to Adalaj stepwell.
It's well maintained by local residents. There's a temple as well in its premises.
This place is well known amongst Photographers as they get to shoot decent pre-wedding photos here.
It was amazing place for pre-wedding shoot
Just 24 kms from Ahmedabad is this historical Vav that is awaiting for its well wishers.
So if you love vavs, visit this less frequented place and see for yourself the magnificent sculptures and designs.
Villagers are struggling hard for upkeep but plastic waste and plastic foods and packages are littered on each floor and space literally everywhere in vav.
Ignore all these and look for the finer points in this vav.
Parking free, photography free, time free, are you free?
Check the photos to see who built this vav. Very few know this.
Enjoy.
Revisited Ancient Vav at Ambapur almost after a 4 years span. 16/9/23.
Spic and span interiors and so well kept, kudos to the locals and other involved agencies.
The ASI display board narrates the significance of this 15 th century Vav.
Photos do the talking.
Worth your visit and each moment spent .
Nestled inside the Ambapur village , the vav cant be accessed via public transport . From the highway its about 1 km inside. The lore of the well dates back to the deity Amba and built around the same time as the adalaj . Some say this was done as a practise well before creating the main vav at adalaj. Though not being a tourist spto , it kept clean and tidy by the villagers . Good to go during the day time as their would be good sunlight to walk inside .
I was so spellbound by the art, stone Carvings and design of 15 th Century Ambapur stepwell,Gujarat. Finest example of Indian Architecture.
