This place is inside University. There is a lot of chaos around it but the amazing fact is that this place is really very silent and peaceful. I found that people don't know about this place. Even being in University no one really has idea about it and it's history. That garden exists there since British rule on India so it's really very old.
Very beautiful garden situated in S P Pune University campus. There are rumours of this place being haunted. According to inscription on Alice's grave : ALICE RICHMAN BORN AT MELROSE ,SOUTH AUSTRALIA 13TH NOV 1856 DIED HERE OF CHOLERA 14TH JAN 1882 R.I.P.
A very beautiful lush green garden with very tall and old wild trees. Best place for morning walk.
It's a spooky spooky place. The entry is restricted. This place has lush green tall trees. It's a delight for botanists to visit this place. One can here birds chirp. You'll find large spiders as big as your palm. Be sure to were your socks and walk on the given trail. Be careful with the guard. He's a bit too moody and would sometimes allow you sometimes won't. As this place is the last resting place for someone I would suggest one should keep silence. It's mostly open to visit in the morning. You can still sneek in anytime thought i would not suggest it. Best enjoyed in the rainy season.
It is a very quiet, peaceful and beautiful garden with diversity of nature! Plenty of trees add to the greenery that makes it very soothing and relaxing here. There is also a playground for recreational purposes. Photography is prohibited and try to avoid visiting the garden late in the night.
Must visit, old world charm... Just opposite the old canteen... the steps across the huge banayan tree, the old canteen and this garden forms the holy trinity in the campus, romantic ambience at peak during monsoon...
This is very peaceful garden....although not made it very beautiful and decorative by Pune University ...but it gives feelings of peacefulness as it is inside university and very few people enter there, specially those who are in love and wants some privacy.....this is in the midst of post office, art department, publication department and girls hostel. Now who was Alice Richman? She was niece of Sir James Ferguson (Ferguson College named after him). She was born in Melrose, Australia. When Alice was nine, she moved with her family to England. When she came to India, she was twenty four. The present main building of Pune University which was built in 1864, was that time a Governor's house, where Sir James Ferguson was staying, when he was "Governor of Bombay" (1880 -1885 ). Alice came to Pune to visit her uncle and aunt. During cholera outbreak in Pune in 1882, Ferguson's wife Olive died on 8th January in Bombay where she was shifted for treatment and his niece Alice Richman died in Pune on 14th January. In present Alice Garden she was buried and garden is named after her as Alice garden. Most of the information about this link is established by PhD scholar Amit Ranjan from Delhi. Many believe that Alice was in love with local boy....and many stories born around it, including unfulfilled love story (uncertainty of future of love story ends in suicide of loval boy and Alice followed the suit) to haunted place at night. I was living in Pune University campus histel 6 and 5, (1999 to 2002), this place is very good...no fearful days or nights.
