The Coir Museum is such an amazing place to be at. Learning the art of using coir in so many many ways that one cannot imagine. And Kerala being a state with coconut trees one can make use of the coir to make great items and manufacture as well as export them abroad and the state can earn revenue. The Coir Board also provides courses for students to learn. It is truly beautiful place with a whole lot to see and learn!
Its was a great experience of how effective we can use the coconut husk literally we can use for everything in home which I take up from this museum. Amazingly they have demonstrated the use like wall painting ways, home appliances, tiles specially that is life long warranty as per instructor. Best part i met with Ramya she gave me awesome tour of museum and very descriptive explanation and information about evolution of coir from ancient to modern ways of use and machine for creation thanks a lot for eye opening tour. They also provide educational training through which you can learn how to make use of coconut shell cover wonderful initiative to give a right direction to these industries.
Nice museum with some really nice artefacts. Though the exhibits seem limited and old...they do give one an idea about the possibilities of coir usage.
The Alappuzha Coir Museum, located in Alappuzha, Kalavoor, Kerala, India, is a museum dedicated to showcasing the history, evolution, and significance of coir industry in the region. Coir refers to the natural fiber extracted from the husk of coconuts, which is used for a variety of products including mats, ropes, and textiles. The museum was established to highlight the traditional craftsmanship and techniques associated with coir production in Kerala. It provides insights into the various stages of coir processing, from husk extraction to weaving, spinning, and dyeing. The museum's exhibits include tools, machinery, and displays that depict the labor-intensive processes involved in turning coconut husks into valuable coir products. The coir industry has been a vital part of Kerala's economy and culture for centuries, and the museum helps preserve and showcase this rich heritage. The establishment of the museum aimed to educate both locals and visitors about the significance of coir in the region's history and its continued importance in contemporary times. The museum's history likely dates back to the late 20th century or early 21st century when efforts were made to promote and preserve Kerala's traditional industries and crafts. Over time, the museum has evolved to provide a comprehensive overview of the coir industry's history, technology, and its contribution to the local economy. Today, the Alappuzha Coir Museum serves as an informative and engaging attraction for tourists and researchers interested in the coir industry's heritage and its role in shaping the socio-economic fabric of Kerala. It stands as a tribute to the craftsmanship, innovation, and sustainable practices that have defined coir production in the region for generations.
Gives you a view into history of coir making. Adds to your knowedge base, excellent displays, but can be even better. The souvenier shop vollections needs to be improved too with smaller items that people can carry as memorobilia. Overall a good experience, can visit once for sure. To take pictures we need to take an additional ticket.
