Alagu Mallari Krishna Swamy Temple - Featured Reviews (99)
It is an ancient temple, but sadly, the stone pillars and walls have been painted with a white paint. It is maintained well and the temple is very clean and peaceful.

The temple is located about 80 kms from Chennai, 2 kms from Sullurpeta, Andhra Pradesh. Beautifully situated in a serene place. The Lord Venugopala Krishna Swamy is seen with Chathur buja in a standing posture, playing on a flute with two hands. The other two hands carry a Chakra and a conch. He is accompanied on either side by His two consorts viz. Sathyabama and Jambavathi. Sugreeva and Jatayu are the two dwara palakas. Garuda, carrier of the Lord, is standing just opposite to main sannathi with folded hands. He is about 9 feet in height. Soundaryavalli Thayar is sitting on a lotus with 4 arms. Andal Nachiyar is standing with a lotus in her hand. Bear King Jambhavan, who helped Lord Rama in his encounter with demon Ravana, is standing about 9 feet tall, with folded hands, next to Lord Rama' s sannathi. The timings are between 6 to 11 am and 4 to 8 pm. Worshipping the deities ensures peacefulness and solace to the mind.
Ancient temple of LORD KRISHNA Mannarpoluru, a heritage site, with significant references to Jambavati's wedding with Sri Krishna. It is the place where Sri Krishna defeated Jambavanth to procure Samanthakamani. It is mentioned in Brahmanda Purana that Sri Krishna fought with Jambavantha for 28 days. Hence this place got the name "Malla Hari Poru Vuru" (means the place where Lord Hari did Malla Yudham, a type of fight). Jambavatha presented Samanthakamani and his daughter Jambavathi to Sri Krishna. As time passed by, its name got changed to Mannarpoluru. This is the only temple in India dedicated to Jambavathi, Sathyabhama and Sri Krishna.
