In India after the dreadful end of Mughal Empire in 1857, the very first Islamic intellectual reformist revolution rose in the North Indian town of Deoband. Hujjatul-Islam al-Imam Muhammad Qasim Nanawtawi established Darul Uloom Deoband on May 30, 1866. Those who helped him in his mission were Haji Aabid Husain and Imam Rabbani Rasheed Ahmad Gangohi and others. At Deoband, Imam Muhammad Qasim Nanawtawi reinstated the great intellectual legacy of Imam Shah Wali-Allah of Delhi. Imam Qasim Nanawtawi's Darul Uloom Deoband became most prestigious seat of learning in Islamic Religious Sciences in Asia. In 1982 the legacy of Shah Wali-Allah and Imam Muhammad Qasim Nanawtawi was protected by Hakeemul Islam Maulana Qari Mohammad Tayyab (Rector of Darul Uloom Deoband 1929-1983) in form of present Darul Uloom Waqf Deoband.

Probably amongst the 1st few muslim black people this town has ever seen, we became the side attraction for the whole town. Went to the Mosque prayed without a cap and i was looked upon don't know if it was good look or bad look. It was an awesome experience for all of us. It is also a good Islamic Institute probably the biggest in Asia
