Very old temple tucked away in a corner of Kolapakkam. Huge temple restored from the brinks of destruction. Positive vibes once you enter the temple. Special Bhairava sanctum known to be powerful based on the descriptions in the temple. Parking space is available. Not much of shops nearby, only 1 priest to take care of such a huge temple
Very close to our residence yet only a few times we have been to this temple.. very old temple.. always felt the positive vibes and inner satisfaction when we come here.. it was once completely dilapidated until 1998 but later restored by raising funds from donors to what it is now.. om namashivaya..
Surya bhagavan sthalam at Kolapakkam. Very powerful deity with his consort.1300 yrs old temple which is renovated recently and not known to many. As per legend Lord Surya himself worshipped lord shiva in this Sthalam.
The temple is East facing with entrance from the south through a gate. This temple is said to be over 1300 years old. this temple is considered as one of the Navagrahas temple (Suryan sthalam) around Chennai region. The Sun God is given prominence in this temple, where all important deities of the temples are facing Surya Bhagavan shrine. The unique feature is that the three main deities - The Sun God, Bairavar Idol and the Shivalingam are to be seen through Salaram (window) all at the same time. Rinavimochana Lingeswarar who is supposed to free his devotees of all debts. According to scriptures, every human being is born with three types of debts. They are Deva Rina (debt to God), Rishi Rina (debt to Sages or Rishis) and Pitru Rina (debt to one's ancestors). There are also well- defined means of repaying these debts. If a man does not repay these debts in his lifetime he will have another birth to repay. There is no escape from repaying these debts
Beautiful temple, very calm and peaceful place. The temple is small but very close to nature surrounded by trees and pond. Best time to visit early mornings on Sunday.
There is a good vibration in the temple. Well maintained. Garden is there and it is very pleasant. Theppa kulam is amazing to see. It looks like village temple, amazing.
A wonderful ancient small temple in Kolapakkam, which also happens to be a Navagraha temple in Chennai city. This Agatheeswarar temple is the temple for the Sun God. Since today was a sunday, i just thought of visiting this temple, but on reaching the temple, i was so happy, when i saw the Kala Bhairava pooja in this temple, since today was a sunday. Interestingly the old name for kolapakkam is sivapadha sekara nallur. The temple was in total ruins, which one can see by the photographs inside the temple, and was renovated and reconstructed in the year 1998. Temple dates back to nearly 1400 years old, which has been highlighted by the stone inscriptions found inside the temple. A east facing temple, with no rajagopuram and no kodimaram. Though it is an east facing temple, it is similar to other temples found in Chennai city, where the entrance to the sanctum sanctorum is from the south. Lord Shiva faces east, while the ambal faces south. Both the lord and ambal are in same building. The nandhi which is present outside the main building, faces the lord from the east but through a hole in the wall. The aavudai (base of the shiva linga) is square in shape. Temple has a huge pond in the south east direction of the temple, which has compound wall etc, but the maintenance could have been better. Lord Name : Agastheeswarar Ambal Name: Anandhavalli First important or unique feature of this temple is the Kalabhairava pooja that is performed in this temple on sundays. The second unique feature is the presence of Runa Vimochana lingam. This lingam is behind the main sanctum sanctorum. The sun god faces the Lord and is present in the south east direction. Definitely a wonderful small temple to visit. Good to know our ancestors have built temples for the navagraha inside the city itself.
