Very divine place of mother Kamakshi dating back to 2500 years old.. this is the original Kamakshi devi where Adi Shankaracharya & Veera brahmam Swamy meditated. Later the new Kamakshi temple was built only 1000 yrs ago.

A powerful and real kamakshi. You can really feel the powerful vibrations in this temple. Here the goddess sculpture is big and if you notice her face you can slightly see the (korai pallu) teeth of kali which is evident that she was a kaali who was very angry about the monsters and their huntings thousands of years ago.she was calmed by Adhi shankarar and now we can see her smile.Only Adhi kamakshi has the kaali teeth. she sits in padmasana which makes her look beautiful.This temple has no pond but its peaceful atmosphere makes everyone feel relaxed. I request who makes the review not to get confused between Kamakshi Amman temple and Adhi kamakshi Amman temple. Currently under minor construction, but still open to public. This is an absolutely 'must visit' temple if you are in Kanchipuram. The temple premises are much smaller than for the Kanchi Kamakshi temple, but it was equally clean, and well-maintained like Kanchi Kamakshi temple. Do ask the priests about the story of this temple and the big tree in the backyard (I'm avoiding a spoiler). Even the people who were doing construction were engrossed and meticulous in their work as if it was their own home.
