Swarnala Cheruvu - a visitors' delight Tourism Development Corporation providing more amenities The series of elections held during the course of this summer season have had their impact on the visitors and tourists of the boating point being run at the famous Swarnala Cheruvu (Nellore Tank) here by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC). Having four boats with a capacity of total 109 seating capacity, this boating point reported a revenue of Rs. 1.2 lakh in May this year as against Rs. 2 lakh during the same month last year. The usual summer crowd was not much there this time which was apparently because of their prior engagements in their different capacities in various stages of the election process. Right from employees, students, activists and citizens, thin crowd was seen this summer. The AP Tourism staff are expecting that this will be covered in the coming days as the people are increasingly using the new facilities and services being provided at the boating point. Every month, four to five families are showing interest to celebrate the birthday of their dear ones in a boat amid the cool waters of the Nellore tank here. In such cases, they are being taken up to the centre of the water body around 5 p.m. where they would enjoy their time till 6.30 p.m. to 7 p.m. "All precautionary measures are being taken in such instances. Life jackets are being given to all the visitors present at such functions. There is increasing demand for this service," said K. Amaranatha Reddy, assistant manager, AP Tourism boating points, Nellore district.
