Hardly ever write reviews but I too had to set the record straight about this charming place. The New Haven Historic Mansion is a true gem! The rich history and unique design make it a must-visit. Our host, Nick, was incredibly kind and helpful as we settled in. We especially appreciated the tour he gave us of the mansion which was informative and engaging, highlighting fascinating details about the mansion's past. It truly was one of the standout moments of our whole trip. I especially loved the beautiful art created by Nick’s wife displayed around the house, it added a lovely personal touch. As a person with back pain, I was delighted by how comfortable my bed was. The mansion is charming and truly feels like a home away from home. You can't find places with this feel anymore. I’ll be staying here every time I visit New Haven. Highly recommend for history buffs and anyone looking to explore a piece of New Haven's heritage! —I give the overall experience a 10/10

Trying to be honest but kind here. The Mansion is run, and I think owned by an older gentleman who is very helpful and nice. Check-in is definitely after 4 PM as he seems to do it all himself. The outside does need some 'tidying up' so we were not sure we were in the right place to start with, so call if you need him to answer the door. Inside is very eclectic to say the least. It was nice to hear the history of the house, and stories of the various kinds of homemade art but it was all a little weird. Lots of furniture and things covered over to hide its age etc. Overall it is a great place to stay in terms of location and good value, but don't expect WiFi (we didn't ask but couldn't find any) or perfect rooms. It's not immaculate but not dirty either. Expect comfy beds, a place to leave your stuff in a very 'unique' and quirky environment with real keys!

Had a great experience over a very busy weekend Yale graduation. The host was so very kind and helpful like a family member making us feel Cared for and getting us what we wanted. I also personally appreciate the history of the experience and the family’s personalized decorations

Staying her is similar to renting a room in a boarding house. Upon arrival at the front door, one is greeted by dirty steps, chipped paint, a house in need of upkeep, old Halloween decorating heaped inside the front door (in May), and a first floor crammed with art made by the owner’s wife, including collages, modern? Oils, and dozens of dolls of every description. It has an “old” smell.|Owner gave a friendly 5 minute “history of the house” and we were shown to our room up about 20 steps. We we’re offered a choice of two rooms, either one with a TV or one with a refrigerator. Room is very old fashioned, very small bathroom and musty odor. Again the decor is owner wife decorated. The internet did not work most of the time. No air conditioning, but a small heater is located in the room. Woodwork needs painting,|An electric kettle was provided with some tea bags and instant coffee. No cups. We had to ask and he brought us some styrofoam.|There is also no maid service at all.|On the bright side, the bed was comfortable. |We had to pay in full upon making the reservation, so opted not to move to another hotel.

It's quirky. It's fun. It really reminded me of guest rooms kept by my relatives - nice, but a little kooky. The rooms are clean. Nick is a sweetie who opens up his home, gives you a nice tour, shows you to your room, answers your questions, then pretty much leaves you to yourself after that. Right around the corner is the amazing Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana, and all of the rest of Little Italy. There's a great farmer's market at Wooster Square on Saturdays. Walking distance to Yale. Half the price of nearby chain hotels.||||Internet worked well for us throughout our entire several-day stay, so may have been updated. There is maid service on request.

Nick, the host was amicable and friendly. He gave us a short tour of the house, while narrating its history. The art all around the house, including one of a kind dolls handcrafted by his wife were an unique experience. The outside was unkempt and there was no sign. Parking was limited to 1 car space. While this house/hotel has some history, the room we stayed in could do with some updating. The furniture and window dressing seemed to match the 1800s. The presence of all those dolls gave us a creepy feeling. I was taken aback that none of the reviews mentioned the dolls.

Nic was an excellent host, explaining the interesting of this historic building. The art work throughout the home was beautiful and interesting, in addition to the fact it was created by his talented wife. We very much enjoyed our stay

This is a historic mansion and not a B&B. This house has an interesting history, and if you like historical homes you should definitely stay. This house is on the National Register, and was built in 1830. The pricing is extremely competitive for the area. The mansion is within walking distance to the beach and downtown New Haven. The house is decorated in original art. The owner is an artist. There are several dolls in the house, which we’re all hand made by the owner. They are quite extraordinary!
