Sholo Ana Bangali - Restaurant in Darjeeling - Darjeeling, India

Few months ago visited this place. This place doesn't need any special introduction. Atmosphere is good but the prices were way too high. The Bengali cuisine adds a perfect touch to the place.

Since I had a few hours between tour, I decided to indulge in some bengali food wishlist at darjeeling. I was welcomed within an option of Ala Carte. There was a descent spread of a variety of dishes that are completely new to me in terms of palate. You begin with a host of vegetable preparations and a stuffed puri and move on to rice specialities and curries. There is a good selection of bengali sweets as well.

Finding a authentic Bengali restaurant in Darjeeling was a saviour from Momos and Baos. This restaurant is located on Mall Road, Darjeeling just few metres from Keventer's. The ambiance of the place was good considering it was in Darjeeling. The quality of mutton and Chicken were good but the quality of fish was not upto the mark. The fish wasn't of the highest quality. Basanti Pulao was too sweet. Overall the food was okay. Service was good and quick. A good experience in Darjeeling.

Try to avoid this place. Rice 95 rs. Dal 105 rs. 3 piece very hard rock like chicken 330 rs. Potato fry like hard stick ( u have to give very high pressure to break ) 75 rs. I asked why so price.. They proudly told : bcz its hill station and quality is better than any other place. Trust me 2 piece chicken i ate and one piece i wasted. So bad taste.. Whoever take entry to it they come out or else sit and order with a very glumy face like me If you are having lots of money and u want to waste it, You can go. Most of the times its empty bcz people use to go and come out seeing the price.. Veg thali 750 nonveg thali 1k . Its better to u can have your dinner in any good restrau. I went i saw price but could not come out due to self respect. Google pay was not available . They were unable to give changes of 400 also. I ate rice chicken kosha and aloobhaja worth of 570.. I could have used that money in better way.. This is not sholo ana.. This is ek ana doglapona.

We had ordered 2 non-veg thalis for 4 people. The rice quantity was a bit less for 4 people. So we ordered a bowl of rice separately, which was sufficient. All the foods tasted good and authentic.

This is a very popular and deceptive tourist scam in Darjeeling which everyone should avoid, unless they want to have their money wasted on garbage. The place, although was well decorated was half empty when we walked in during the rush of dinner and it was later we realised why it was such. We ordered plain rice, roti, chicken, daal, 2 veggies and alu bhaja. Pretty basic and easy bengali cuisine for a restaurant having such a name. What we experienced during the next half an hour was horrifying. The instance we set foot inside, even before sitting, the waiters started to push us to have biriyani. It was later that we realised that they were serving left over biriyani and were just looking to exhaust that stock. They made us wait for 20-25 minutes and then brought out everything except the rotis. The quantity was hilarious, it would have kept a baby hungry. 3 pieces of tiny chicken, other curries in decorative bows that can be used for childrens' kitchen toys and so on. One plate of their food is not enough for a child's half appetite. Ignoring that, we were ready to start when they brought out the left over rotis and along with that some idiotic excuses. The old rotis were torn from the middle. They said that they had microwaved the rotis which tore them. On asking why they had to microwave a fresh roti, the uncultured waiter said that in Darjeeling everyone microwaves fresh roti so that it does not get hard. He seemed to have forgotten that we were not sitting in Siachen. Another group of people had asked for roti after us, to whom these uncouth waiters had said that there were no more rotis. After we returned ours, they were arrogant enough to bring them our returned rotis. Finally I decided to leave when they brought us cold striped potato chips that are sold in grocery shops. They were even smelling of plastic. On asking, the same foul waiter said that is how alu bhaja is made everywhere. Such a pathetic and shameful experience. Such establishments should be closed down immediately, even the main branch should feel the heat back in Kolkata.

Had fish thali at 899 + GST which had chicken curry with two small chicken pieces. Thali had one fish item, sukti, dal, rice, pulao , chatni and one gulab jamun as well.. Ordered luchi and chicken dakbunglow separately. Chicken dakbunglow had too much chillis which I didn't like. Nolen gurer icecream was at 190 + GST which had two ice cream scoops and tastes good.

Though the taste of the food is good but 1.when it comes to hygiene i will give it a big zero. 2.the price is too high. 3. The entry point is just rubbish. There was garbage and dog poop everywhere. 4. I bought a bowl of daal and there was cockroach in it. 5.the behaviour of the manager is too rough. He just wanted to cover up. The way he talked , looked like he really needs a crash course of behaviour. I will never suggest to go there.
